Ford Mustang & Dodge Viper Comparison
Ford Mustang Overview
A throwback to the heyday of the American muscle car, the 2008 Ford Mustang borrows key styling elements from
the classic Mustangs of the ‘60s and combines them with radical paint colors and big, powerful engines.
Available in four main trim levels – V6, GT, Shelby GT500, and GT California Special, the Mustang can be ordered in either coupe or convertible
form. The 4.0 liter V6 is stout enough for most drivers, but the 4.6 liter V8 in the GT pumps out 300 horsepower, making it one of the fastest
cars in its class. And then there’s the Shelby GT500, which produces an incredible 500 horsepower from a 5.4 liter supercharged V8, allowing it
to compete with other rear-wheel drive coupes like the Chevrolet Corvette and the BMW M3. All models come equipped with a choice of 5-speed
manual or automatic transmissions, with the Shelby GT500 boasting a Tremec 6-speed manual for rapid-fire shifting.
Mustangs are all about style, and a selection of 16”, 17”, and 18” aluminum wheels are available to customize your pony
car. Convertible models have a power-folding convertible top and optional soft boot for open-air fun. GT models feature integrated fog
lamps, and optional high-intensity discharge headlamps offer superior nighttime visibility. For safety, all Mustangs come with dual front
and side airbags, and an anti-lock braking system is optional on V6 models and standard on GT.
Interior options include a touch screen DVD-based navigation system, combining GPS technology and a 6.5” screen
to help guide your route. Two powerful Shaker audio systems are available – a 500-watt version and an Earth-shattering 1,000-watt version with
dual trunk subwoofers. An auxiliary audio input jack will accommodate your Ipod® with ease, and SIRIUS® satellite radio is also available.
Standard Cloth or optional heated leather seating surfaces wrap around supportive front bucket seats, while coupes feature a 50/50 split fold
rear seat back to handle large cargo items.
One of the few true muscle cars remaining, the 2008 Ford Mustang offers the kind of driving kicks that are best
sampled on an open stretch of highway or your favorite curvy backroad.
Dodge Viper & Ford Mustang Comparison
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. The Mustang is considerably cheaper to get to the dealership than the Dodge Viper. The Dodge Viper pales in comparison to the Ford
Mustang when it comes to fuel economy. Producing an accurate fuel economy evaluation is so hard that some think not even the federal government
can do it, but it looks as though the Ford Mustang is the winner regarding gas mileage. With respect to MSRP, the Viper costs tremendously more
than the Ford Mustang. The Dodge will cost you a bundle in gas every year compared to the Mustang. The Ford Mustang will save you a bunch of
money at the pump every year compared to the Viper.
Utility
Drivers with frequent kid-duty might favor the Ford Mustang over the Viper.
Convenience
You'll indubitably take the Dodge Viper for a fill-up approximately as often as the Ford Mustang. You quite
certainly won't have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the Dodge Viper than with the Ford Mustang, as both offer comparable
ranges.
Comfort
Taller drivers will quite a bit enjoy the extra head room in the Ford's front cabin compared to the
Viper.
Dimensions
The Viper is a little more ponderous than the Ford Mustang. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up
the Dodge Viper than the Ford Mustang because of its more capacious tank. The Dodge Viper and the Mustang compete for the same parking spaces.
The Dodge Viper's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a more maneuverable feel in daily traffic than the Ford
Mustang.
Performance
When it comes to horsepower, the Dodge Viper packs quite a punch and will knock the Ford Mustang down a few
rungs. On the flip side, keep in mind that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums. With that kind of horsepower, both
the Viper and the Ford Mustang are full-blown sportscars.
Handling
The Dodge Viper has tremendously wider tires than the Ford Mustang. Keep in mind that bigger tires may look and
feel better, while smaller tires could improve gas mileage. With its tighter turning circle, the Ford Mustang is definitely nimbler than the
Viper, something to consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, note that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on
the highway.
Drivetrain
The Dodge Viper's engine is tremendously bigger than the Ford Mustang's. Remember that larger engines may use
more gas than smaller ones. Torque is the force that lets you accelerate quickly, and in this respect, the Dodge Viper is tremendously more
powerful than the Mustang. The Dodge packs quite a punch compared to the Ford Mustang in terms of torque, which is the force that lets you
accelerate quickly.
Overview
The Ford Mustang and the Viper have the same basic warranty.
