Toyota Tundra & Dodge Ram 1500 Comparison
2008 Toyota Tundra Overview
One of the most powerful half-ton full-size pickups with the size and capability to handle the roughest jobs,
the 2008 Toyota Tundra is changing the segment with its refined character and sheer power.
Available in Regular Cab, extended Double Cab, and four-door CrewMax configurations, the Tundra comes with a standard bed or long
bed. In Double Cab and CrewMax models, there are three trim levels – base, off-road SR5, and luxurious Limited. Engine choices include a 4.0
liter V6 engine, which provides adequate power. The uplevel 4.7 liter V8 boasts 276 horsepower, offering better towing capability and
torque. The top-of-the line 5.7 liter V8 pumps out 381 horsepower and offers a maximum towing capacity of 10,800 lbs. when properly
configured. The 5-speed or 6-speed automatic transmissions offer sequential shifting for manual shifting ability, uphill/downhill
shift logic to make ascending and descending easy, while the 6-speed features Tow/Haul mode to maximize towing ability. The available
4WDemand four-wheel drive system features an electronically-controlled 2-speed transfer case to expertly traverse all manner of off-road
conditions with poise.
Standard safety features include a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system with Electronic Brake-force Distribution
and Brake Assist to increase stopping power and minimize wheel lockup during hard braking. Vehicle Stability Control with Traction Control helps
to maintain control during emergency maneuvers and limit wheelspin on slick surfaces. Standard dual front airbags with front passenger cutoff
switch, front seat-mounted side airbags, and front roll-sensing side curtain airbags make the Tundra one of the safest full-size pickups. The
standard Tire Pressure Monitor System alerts the driver to any significant changes in pressure.
Interior features include a JBL® 6-disc in-dash CD changer with auxiliary audio jack, 12 speakers, and
subwoofer for a superior audio experience. Available Bluetooth® wireless technology makes hands-free calling a breeze. The optional
leather-trimmed and heated bucket seats with 10-way power-adjustable driver and 4-way power-adjustable passenger seats make the drive more
comfortable. Standard dual zone manual climate control with sync mode will please both front seat occupants with individual controls.
With a wealth of standard features, superior engine performance, and rugged styling, the 2008 Toyota Tundra is
a supremely capable full-size pickup truck with serious off-road capability.

better than the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500, but not by much. In terms of MSRP, the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 costs about as much as the Toyota Tundra

Utility
Neither the Ram Pickup 1500 nor the Toyota Tundra has a marked advantage in terms of seating capacity. There's
no clear winner between the Dodge and the Toyota Tundra with respect to transporting cargo. Towing is markedly more the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500's
forte than it is the Toyota Tundra's.
Convenience
You will have to visit your friendly gas station more often with the Toyota Tundra than with the Dodge Ram
Pickup 1500.
Comfort
While the front cabin in the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 offers a bit more head room than the Toyota Tundra, there
frankly isn't much of a difference. The Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 offers more head- and leg-room to your passengers than the Tundra does.
Dimensions
T he Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 is likely to feel a bit sluggish because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio compared to the Toyota
Tundra. Your wallet will hurt more every time you fill up the Ram Pickup 1500 than the Toyota Tundra because of its larger tank. The Toyota
rides lower than the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500, which is a good thing for its center of gravity and ease of access. The Toyota Tundra fits in
smaller parking spaces than the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500. The Toyota Tundra's shorter wheelbase will likely give a more agile feel in daily
traffic. On the flip side, the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 is likely to have a smoother, more stable ride.
Performance
The Ram Pickup 1500 is likely to feel a tad slow because of its high horsepower-to-weight ratio compared to the
Toyota Tundra.
Handling
With its tighter turning circle, the Tundra is doubtless more maneuverable than the Dodge, something to
consider if you do a lot of city driving; however, keep in mind that a vehicle with a tight turning circle may feel a bit twitchy on the
highway.
Drivetrain
The Ram Pickup 1500 has no lessons to learn regarding pickup from the Toyota Tundra.
