BMW 650 & Dodge Viper Comparison
BMW 650 Overview
Aggressive styling, active safety features, and a dynamic driving spirit make the 2008 BMW 650i a scintillating
luxury sportscar.
Available as the 650i coupe or convertible, either model offers heart-pounding performance from a 4.8 liter V8
engine that produces 360 horsepower. Three 6-speed transmissions are available, from a pure manual transmission for true enthusiasts to an SMG
gearbox that allows manumatic shifting. The 650i convertible offers open air thrills with the touch of a button and includes a Rollover
Protection System.
Advanced technology features include Night Vision that uses an infrared camera to display an image of potential road hazards on
the navigation monitor. The standard Logic7 audio system uses 13 speakers, an auxiliary audio input for your iPod®, MP3 playback, and an
optional 6-disc CD changer for hours of concert-like sound quality. The standard Navigation System features voice feedback and command,
detailed maps and directions, and Real Time Traffic to help guide you through your journeys.
Safety features include Active Roll Stabilization that improves the vehicle’s suspension geometry and reduces
body roll while cornering. Dynamic Stability Control combines with All-Season Traction Control to improve traction and control on slippery,
rough, or sandy surfaces. Dual front airbags, front-seat side impact airbags, and dual front knee airbags protect passengers in a collision.
Standard adaptive brake lights illuminate brighter as brake force is increased to help other drivers anticipate your impending stop. Standard
Xenon Adaptive Headlight with dynamic auto-leveling offer superior nighttime visibility and turn in the direction of a curve to help you see
what’s around a corner. Park Distance Control comes standard, using sonar to help you parallel park by emitting a beep that increases with speed
as you get closer to another vehicle.
The graceful lines of a 2008 BMW 650i coupe or convertible are just as inspiring as the thrill of driving
one.
Dodge Viper & BMW 650 Comparison
Performance
Regarding horsepower, the Dodge Viper packs quite a wallop and will knock the BMW down a few rungs. However,
remember that high horsepower engines often command higher insurance premiums. With that kind of horsepower, both the Dodge Viper and the 6
Series are genuine speedsters.
Handling
The Dodge Viper has tremendously bigger tires than the BMW 6 Series. Note that wider tires may look and feel
better, while smaller tires might improve gas mileage. With their similar turning circles, the BMW 6 Series and the Dodge definitely handle
roughly the same into and out of tight spots.
Drivetrain
The BMW 6 Series's engine is tremendously smaller than the Dodge Viper's. Remember that smaller engines can be
stressed more; on the other hand, smaller engines are often cheaper to fix. The BMW 6 Series could learn a lesson or two from the Dodge Viper as
far as torque. The Dodge Viper packs quite a wallop compared to the BMW 6 Series in terms of torque, which is roughly equivalent to
acceleration.
Utility
The BMW's larger trunk will accommodate more large objects than the Dodge Viper. The BMW 6 Series will
indubitably prove friendlier than the Dodge Viper for those of you with frequent kid-cargo.
Convenience
The Viper's fuel tank will need to be replenished more often than the unit in the 6 Series. You'll definitely
have to take the Dodge Viper for a fill-up more often than the BMW 6 Series because of its tank size and gas mileage.
Comfort
Taller drivers will considerably enjoy the extra head room in the BMW 6 Series's front cabin compared to the
Dodge Viper.
Dimensions
The BMW 6 Series is substantially heavier than the Dodge Viper. The Dodge Viper and the BMW 6 Series compete
for the same parking spaces. The Dodge Viper's shorter wheelbase may produce a less-settled highway ride but a more maneuverable feel in daily
traffic than the BMW 6 Series.
Cost
The destination charge is a standard charge for transporting the vehicle from its point of origin to the
dealer. The 6 Series is considerably cheaper to get to the dealership than the Dodge. When it comes to gas mileage, the BMW 6 Series has the
Dodge Viper beat. Producing a precise gas mileage evaluation is so tough that some think not even the federal government can do it, but it looks
as though the BMW 6 Series is the winner with respect to gas mileage. When it comes to MSRP, the Dodge Viper costs approximately as much as the
BMW 6 Series (though the BMW 6 Series is a bit cheaper). The Dodge Viper will cost you a bundle in gas every year compared to the 6
Series.
Overview
The basic warranty that comes with the Dodge Viper isn't quite as generous as the BMW 6 Series's.
